Cancellation/Nonrenewal

May I cancel my own insurance policy whenever I want to?

The policyholder may cancel coverage any time. If you sell your home or move, you would want to cancel. If you cancel during the policy period, the insurance company will refund you any unearned premium according to your policy language. The unearned premium is the portion of your premium that would be allocated to the remainder of the policy period. However, there may be a penalty for canceling prior to expiration. Be sure to research this ahead of time by discussing with your agent.

Will my insurance company keep my insurance policies active during an extended vacation?

Yes, assuming you have pre-paid any premiums due during your planned vacation.
