St. Petersburg Community Comes Together To Raise Over $70,000

Sol Relief St.Pete Community Benefit Concert

 

Hurricane Dorian struck the Bahamas over Labor Day weekend. Less than 30 days later, the St. Petersburg community banded together to support the Bahamian people in their most desperate time of need as they begin what will be a long road to recovery.

Sol Relief Brings St. Petersburg Community Together

A free Benefit for the Bahamas concert was held on October 6th at the Jannus Live venue in downtown St. Petersburg. Jannus Live was generous enough to donate its venue, and local bands gave their time by performing throughout the day. All donations collected before and during the concert went directly to Sol Relief as the charitable organization continues its recovery mission in the Bahamas.

Bankers Financial Corporation, the parent of Bankers Insurance Group, served as the lead corporate sponsor of the event. Bankers Financial pledged to match dollar for dollar up to the first $100,000 in donations.

The concert was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who donated and for the overwhelming community support. We are thrilled to announce the final numbers are in, and we were able to raise $35,140.28, which Bankers Financial Corporation will gladly match!

Identity Theft: 5 Easy Ways To Protect Yourself and Your Business

Cyber awareness is a term we hear a lot nowadays. Cybercriminals are continually coming up with new ways to steal your personal or business information, money, and identity. It’s important to know what methods they are using and how to recognize them.

  • Identity Theft is acquiring and using someone else’s personal information illegally to obtain money or credit. Signs of identity theft include: bills for products or services you did not purchase, suspicious charges on your credit cards, or new accounts opened in your name that you did not authorize.
  • Imposter Scams occur when you receive an email or call from a person claiming to be a government official, family member, or friend requesting personal or financial information. For example, an imposter may contact you claiming to be from the Social Security Administration. The imposter will inform you that your Social Security number (SSN) has been suspended, and hope you will reveal your SSN or pay to have it reactivated.
  • Debt Collection Scams occur when criminals attempt to collect on a fraudulent debt. Signs the “debt collector” may be a scammer are requests to be paid by wire transfers or credit cards. In 2018 there was a spike in requests for gift cards and reloadable cards as well.

Anytime you are online; you are vulnerable. Follow these 5 tips to stay safe.

  1. Practice safe web surfing wherever you are by checking for the “green lock” or padlock icon in your browser bar—this signifies a secure connection.
  2. When you find yourself out in the great “wild Wi-Fi West,” avoid free Internet access with no encryption.
  3. If you do use an unsecured public access point, practice good Internet hygiene by avoiding sensitive activities (e.g., banking) that require passwords or credit cards. Your personal hotspot is often a safer alternative to free Wi-Fi.
  4. Don’t reveal personally identifiable information such as your bank account number, SSN, or date of birth to unknown sources.
  5. Type website URLs directly into the address bar instead of clicking on links or cutting and pasting from the email.

Joe Gregg is one of our Flood Claim Examiners here at Bankers, and has been a member of our team for two and a half years! Get to know a little more about Joe and why he loves working at Bankers.

 

What do you like the most about working for Bankers? What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?

I very much like helping our insurers in their time of need, they are the most important asset we have. Working with the NFIP (FEMA) is a daily learning experience. The job and people I work with are great, together we create a great team. Bankers is a family-owned company and we are all treated with respect and dignity.

 

What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

I love being with family and friends. I enjoy the beach, photography, golf and riding my motorcycle.

 

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Monterrey, Mexico. I love the city, the people and the food. I lived in Monterrey for 11 years as a child, and I still miss the city and my family.

 

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

I would be a contractor, building industrial cooling systems.

 

What are you most proud of?

My family and my grandchildren.
